‘150 people detained in Jammu’

JAMMU : The situation remained peaceful in Jammu on third day of the curfew, which continued without any relaxation on Sunday. Internal security columns of the army conducted flag marches in curfew-bound areas.

The curfew was imposed on Friday, after violence was reported from few areas Jammu during the protests against killings of 40 CRPF personnel in Pulwama on February 14.

“The situation is returning to normalcy in Jammu. Overall the situation was peaceful in Jammu today, baring minor incidents,” said Jammu IGP MK Sinha.

IGP said, “After accessing the situation on ground, a call would be taken regarding relaxation in curfew.”

Around 150 have been taken under preventive detention so far to maintain law and order, including a Kashmiri couple.

“Police have taken about 150 persons into preventive detention. A Kashmiri couple has also been detained for instigatin­g public,” added IGP.

Meanwhile, police, army and central armed police forces personnel were deployed in curfewboun­d areas of the city, with more presence in sensitive areas including Gujjar Nagar, Janipur and Sidhra areas.

The city is also being monitored from air through army helicopter­s and UAVs.

The curfew has caused inconvenie­nce to travellers travelling by railways, air and roads. Vaishno Devi pilgrims were seen travelling on foot towards railway station, airport and bus stand. Buses to the other parts of the country are operating as per routine.

Minor incidents of arguments and sloganeeri­ng were reported from Janipur area in Jammu on Saturday. The situation was brought under control.
