Student, trader held for remarks against army
PULWAMA FALLOUT Case registered against student for inciting animosity among communities, say police
DEHRADUN/NAINITAL: A Kashmiri student was arrested from Dehradun and a trader from Nainital for trying to disturb communal harmony with provocative statements against the armed forces after the Pulwama terror attack, police said.
Senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti said the Kashmiri youth, who is a first-year student in a citybased medical institute, was arrested based on a complaint by a resident of Prem Nagar on Saturday for “insulting and provocative comments against armed forces personnel on Facebook and WhatsApp.” She said, “Following the complaint, a case was registered against him for trying to incite animosity among communities. Later he was arrested.”
The trader, identified as Mohammad Khushnod, 38, was
arrested from Bhimtal locality of Nainital district on Friday night for allegedly making an objectionable remark against India while BJP activists and locals were holding a protest against the Pulwama attacks.
He was sent to jail after being produced before court on Saturday.
Pramoad Pathak, station house officer, Bhimtal police station, said, “He was arrested after some leaders of BJP and locals filed a complaint that Mohammad Khushnod, who is a vegetable vendor in Bhimtal, had made an objectionable remark against India while they were holding a protest.”
