Hooch tragedy: SIT to send samples of liquor to forensic lab in Gujarat

HARIDWAR: With viscera and related forensic report of the spurious liquor in the Hooch tragedy being awaited from a Dehradun laboratory, the Special Investigat­ion Team (SIT) investigat­ing the case is also preparing to send samples of chemicals liquor to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gujarat, an advanced laboratory.

Notably, the chemical was used to make country liquor in Ballupur village of Jhabreda in Haridwar district was recently seized by police from four chemical suppliers.

The country made liquor had become toxic, and has claimed many lives in Ballupur, Balsawagaj and Bindu Khadak villages of Haridwar district.

As the FSL is an advanced and is equipped with state of the art equipment, the SIT wants to send samples of the chemical used in distilling the illegal countrymad­e liquor to the laboratory.

As per superinten­dent of rural police, Navneet Singh, an applicatio­n letter has been submitted in the court to grant permission to send the samples to FSL, as it will aid in the investigat­ion.

An inquiry headed by additional district magistrate Lalit Narayan Mishra has taken statements of 16 people who had been admitted at various hospitals and have returned to their respective homes.

Statements of more than 100 people have also been taken by the ADM since February 9, when the inquiry was ordered. Now, further inquiry and probe by the magistrate will get over only after the forensic reports are submitted.
