TRUDEAU ATTENDS BAISAKHI PARADE
TORONTO: Less than 24 hours after his government deleted references to Sikh (Khalistani) extremism from its 2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a Baisakhi Day event at a historic gurdwara in Vancouver and participated in a parade in the city marking the celebration. Flanked by Canada’s minister of national defence Harjit Sajjan, Trudeau appeared and spoke at the event at the Khalsa Diwan Society’s Ross Street Gurdwara in Vancouver, considered among the oldest in the nation, as it was established in 1902. While Trudeau was greeted with enthusiasm at the parade and honoured at the gurdwara, a hardline group within the community called for his resignation over the delay in removing the references to Sikh (Khalistani) extremism in the public report.
