Ex-Sad MLA Nand Lal passes away

JALANDHAR: Former four-time SAD MLA from Balachaur, Chaudhary Nand Lal, passed away at a private hospital in Mohali after prolonged illness on Sunday.

The 73-year-old politician had represente­d Balachaur for 20 years from 1997 to 2017. He was suffering from cancer . He is survived by two sons. His cremation will take place at their native village, Karimpur on Monday. Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and SAD president and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed grief over his demise.

The CM called Nand Lal a ‘gentleman politician’ and leader of masses with the qualities of head and heart, who worked tirelessly for the welfare of downtrodde­n and overall developmen­t of Kandi region.

Sukhbir Badal tweeted, “I condole the untimely demise of Ch. Nand Lal, former chief parliament­ary secy, Punjab and 4-time MLA after a protracted illness. His amiable nature endeared him to all & he will be sorely missed. May the Almighty grant peace to the departed soul and strength to a bereaved family.”
