Virbhadra, Sukhu share dias in Hamirpur
HAMIRPUR: Sinking all differences, former chief minister Virbhadra Singh and ex-Himachal Pradesh Congress committee (HPCC) president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu shared the stage in Hamirpur on Sunday.
They were here to attend a party sammelan where leaders and workers from as many as seventeen assembly segments of Hamirpur constituency came together.
The party presented a united face with senior leaders, including HPCC chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore, leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, party’s nominee from Hamirpur Ram Lal Thakur among others, sharing dias and attending the part meet to campaign for their candidate ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
The leaders gave a clarion call to workers to remain united and oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power, both at Centre and state.
During his address, the former chief minister Virbhadra Singh said Congress was poised to win all the four seats in Himachal as people were upset with BJP’s poor performance across various sectors. He hit out at the BJP over the issue of unemployment in the state. “Their (BJP) downfall is imminent and they would not be able to form government at the Centre this time,” the former CM said, adding that the party is optimistic to regain lost power at the Centre with the help of its allies.
Seeking support for party candidate Ram Lal Thakur, who is up against BJP’s Anurag Thakur in Hamirpur, Singh said he is satisfied with the high command’s decision to nominate his old friend Ram Lal Thakur, though he was in favour of fielding Sujanpur MLA Rajinder Rana’s son Abhishek Rana.
“I appeal to people to vote for senior leader Ram Lal Thakur as he is the right choice to become the MP from Hamirpur,” Singh said. Meanwhile, former state Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu raised apprehensions over the malfunctioning and tampering of the electronic voting machines (EVM).
He said the EC of India should take note of the issue and ensure fair and systematic conduct of the upcoming polls.
