CHANDIGARH: The BJP legislator from Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta, was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Haryana assembly on Monday. After pro-tem speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian administered oath to all MLAs, leader of the House, Manohar Lal Khattar, proposed Gupta’s name as the Speaker which was seconded by deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala and accepted by all members unanimously. The CM briefed the House about Gupta’s political career and said he had also been Chandigarh mayor .
CHANDIGARH: The BJP legislator from Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta, was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha on Monday.
After pro-tem speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian administered oath to all MLAs, leader of the House, Manohar Lal Khattar, proposed Gupta’s name as the Speaker which was seconded by deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala and accepted by all members unanimously.
The chief minister briefed the House about Gupta’s political career and said he had also been mayor of Chandigarh.
Leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh also congratulated Gupta and urged him to pay special attention to the opposition benches.
Former Congress legislature party leader Kiran Choudhry said the House had high expectations from Gupta.
The lone MLA of the INLD, Abhay Chautala, who also congratulated Gupta on becoming the Speaker, said though the House knew he was a staunch supporter of the BJP as an MLA, the opposition legislators had hopes that he (Gupta) would conduct the House without any prejudices as the Speaker.
