All decked up, Sultanpur Lodhi is immersed in Guru Nanak’s message
SULTANPUR LODHI: The historic town of Sultanpur Lodhi, where Guru Nanak is believed to have spent 14 years of his life, is immersed in the teachings of the first Sikh master, with its every nook and corner sporting eyecatching murals and stencils related to Sikhism.
Lakhs of devotees are visiting the town where houses, shops and other structures have been painted white, creating a sense of equity among all, one the main teachings of Guru Nanak. Also, the city is decorated with flowers, colourful curtains and lights have been installed at various places.In the last four days, nearly 7 lakh people have visited the town to pay obeisance to mark the 550th Parkash Purb of the first Sikh Guru, says the local administration.
The state government is expecting around 60 lakh visitors between November 1 and 15.
Terming it a once-in-lifetime opportunity, devotees were impressed with the arrangements. “The way the city has been decorated, we feel the Guru everywhere,” said Charanjit Dhillon (72), who came with his wife Amanjot Kaur (68) from the United States. “The atmosphere here has left an indelible impression on my mind. We will stay in the town till November 13,” said Sukhdev Singh, a businessman from Siliguri in West Bengal.
The government and SGPC have set up many screens telecasting live programme from Gurdwara Ber Sahib.
