SANGRUR DALIT MURDER: POLICE FILE CHARGESHEET
SANGRUR: Police on Monday submitted chargesheet against four upper-caste men accused of allegedly torturing a 37-year-old Dalit man, Jagmail Singh, and forcing him to drink urine before he died at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, last week. The chargesheet was filed in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Gurmehtab Singh in Moonak town of the district after the case was investigated by a special investigation team (SIT) formed by the Sangrur senior superintendent of police (SSP).

The charge-sheet was filed in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Gurmehtab Singh in Moonak town of the district after the case was investigated by a SIT formed by the Sangrur SSP.
“We have probed the case and investigated it from different angles. We traced the history of the dispute between the two parties. The challan was submitted within a week following directions of the state government. We are going to send a report to the deputy commissioner and other authorities concerned,” said SP Gurmeet Singh.
The police have arrested
Kamalpreet Singh, alias Rinku, his father Amarjeet Singh, Yadwinder alias Lucky and Balwinder, alias Binder of Changaliwala village near Lehragaga.
The accused were booked under Sections 302 (murder) of the IPC and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at the Lehra police station.
DC Ghanshyam Thori recommended ₹5 lakh compensation to the victim’s family from the Ambedkar fund as was discussed with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Saturday.
