6,160 taxpayers contribute 80% to state’s GST kitty
CHANDIGARH : The state government on Wednesday said nearly 80% of the total Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Haryana comes from 6,160 taxpayers and there was 30.54% growth in tax collection between July and October.
The state collected ₹6,930 crore during these four months.
As per official figures, Haryana contributed ₹4,603 crore per month in 2018-19 to the GST kitty and total GST collection is ₹55,231 crore.
Reviewing functioning of the excise and taxation department, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar directed to check tax evasion and improve GST collection besides launching a statewide registration drive for registration of left out firms under the GST and also to cancel the registration of fake companies.
Under the GST regime, a business whose turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh is required to register as a normal taxable person. The CM also directed the department to depute officers who would personally visit registered dealers who did not file return to ascertain the reasons.
The spokesperson said it was also informed in the meeting that
6,160 taxpayers have been identified who contribute nearly 80% of the total state GST revenue.
The taxpayer base in the State has increased from 2.25 lakh in VAT regime to 4.48 lakh taxpayers in GST regime.
A physical survey of 1,13,590 newly registered taxpayers was conducted out of which 16,967 were found non-existent or non functional, while the registration of 12,314 had been cancelled.
It was also informed that as a result of the enforcement steps regarding the GST, the department has recovered Rs 1,262 crore.
