GURUGRAM: The Haryana government has initiated a survey to regularise over 5,000 industries located in the unapproved areas of the district and extend all basic civic amenities, which are currently missing. These amenities include water connections, sewers, paved roads etc. In the absence of these essential amenities, the industry owners have been facing a tough time for the past several decades.

THE SURVEY

The survey began a week ago by a private software company hired by the government to collect details of every industrial unit in such areas. Details include information such as the type of industry, the annual turnover of the unit, the total strength of employees and suchlike. The company has to complete the survey by February-end next year, and the data will be used by the industry department of the Haryana government to decide the fate of such units.

IRREGULAR INDUSTRIAL UNITS

The industrial units are located in unapproved areas such as Daulatabad Road, Kadipur, Basai Road, Pataudi Road, Behrampur, Khandsa Road, Sheetla

Mata Colony, Binaula and others. There are almost 4,500 to 5,000 small and medium-sized industrial units that have come up in these areas in the last 50 years.

IS Yadav, general manager, industry Gurugram, said, “Any area having 70% and more industrial units will be regularised by the government. Currently, there is no data about these industries, their numbers, the kind of employment they generate and the strength of their revenue generation. The survey will collect these details. We will forward these details to the industry department of the Haryana government.”

Sanjiv Bansal, president of Basai Road Industrial Association, said, “The industries, which are situated in these unapproved areas in the district, are mostly the three- or four-tier suppliers of the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Suzuki/Honda car/ Hero/Honda scooter/Honeywell etc. They form the backbone of these bigger industries.”

In October, the industry owners wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) seeking a direction to the state government to regularise their areas.

Kesni Anand Arora, chief secretary, Haryana, said, “Let the industry department compile data. Decisions will be taken accordingly and, of course, industry welfare will be taken into consideration.” The survey team will visit every industry unit with forms. The industry owners can also fill the up survey form available online.
