1 yr after, no headway in 151 cases of crime against Dalits in Jaipur
JAIPUR: The district police are yet to start investigation in 50 cases of crime against children, 34 cases of crime against women and 151 cases of crime against the people of SC/ST community registered in January 2019.
This was revealed in the crime data presented by DGP Bhupendra Singh during a monthly review meeting with the officials of civil rights wing of the police and other senior officials. After the meeting, the DGP directed all the district superintendents of police (SPs) and deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) to complete the investigation of 235 cases of women atrocities, POCSO cases and SC/ST cases which are pending for last one year. All the concerned SPs and DCPs have been directed to go through the case files and dispose of them. HT has a copy of the directions given to SPs and DCPs. “If the DCPs and SPs are not able to dispose of the cases in the given time frame, then the concerned investigating officer (IO) should discuss the problems with the officers of civil rights wing,” Singh said. “Quick investigation in cases of crime against women and child is the priority of the police department,” he added.
In cases of stay on arrest by the court, the police chief directed the IOs to prepare their charge-sheet and try to present their side through public prosecutors to get the stay removed. “The SP and DCPs should personally review the cases and should look whether there has been stay on the arrest or not? Also, charge-sheet should be presented in cases in which accused are absconding, ” the direction reads.
In cases where complainants are not coming to coordinate in investigation they should be given a personal message. The IOs should also take regular follow-up from the laboratories in which FSL reports are awaited. Witness should be asked reasons if they are not coming on time to get their statements registered.
The DCPs and SPs were directed to take an explanation from the IOs in cases in which investigation is pending from more than two months.
