Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Sandeep Singh Wadhera and DSP Harpal Singh Grewal, both posted at Ludhiana reached SIT’s camp office at Faridkot on Friday. Both were questioned by inspector general of police and member of SIT Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.

As per SIT sources, both Wadhera and Harpal had accompanied suspended IG Paramraj Umaranangal, who is also an accused in the Kotkapura firing case, on October 13, 2015 when he reached Kotkapura from Ludhiana. “Umranangal was the Ludhiana IG at the time while Wadhera and Harpal were also posted there. Both were also present at the spot when firing incidents took place at Behbal Kalan and

Kotkapura on October 14, 2015, so their role is under investigation,” an official said.

FORMER SHO SENT TO 2-DAY POLICE CUSTODY

A Faridkot court on Friday sent the then station house officer (SHO) to two-day police custody for his alleged role in tampering with evidence in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing on anti-sacrilege protesters.

The SIT had arrested Gurdeep Singh Pandher on June 25 and added Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc) of the Indian penal Code to the FIR registered on October 14, 2015, against the protesters.

Pandher, who was recently posted in Rupnagar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody on June 26 after his one-day police remand ended. He was presented in the court of duty magistrate Ekta Uppal on Friday. The SIT had filed an application in the court of judicial magistrate demanding his production warrant which was allowed on Thursday.
