Capt gets his second jab
CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh got his second Covid-19 vaccine shot in Chandigarh on Monday.
“CM @capt_amarinder gets his 2nd #COVID19 vaccine shot. Appeals again to all eligible to come forward to get themselves vaccinated for their own protection and that of their families and society,” his media adviser, Raveen Thukral, tweeted.
Capt Amarinder took the second dose of Covishield a day after nominating actor Sonu Sood as the brand ambassador for Punjab’s anti-coronavirus vaccination programme. During the coronavirus-induced lockdown last year, the actor had helped migrants reach their home states.
Harsimrat slams state govt over ‘shortcomings’ in Covid management
Former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday said that shortcomings in management of Covid reported by the central team which visited the affected districts of Punjab was a clear indictment of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who had chosen to ban the political activities of the opposition parties instead of doing anything to improve medical infrastructure and healthcare system in the state.
She said the mortality rate in Punjab was one of the highest in the country because “Amarinder had refused to take control of the situation from the very start”.
“The chief minister isolated himself at his farmhouse, resulting in lack of government facilities and a lack of faith in the government efforts to control the spread of the virus,” she said.
She said these aspects were also reflected in the report of the central team which disclosed that the situation was worst in Patiala, Ludhiana and Mohali. However, Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu dubbed her’s accusations as “baseless and politically motivated”.
