WOMEN TO LEAD TWO NAGAR COUNCILS IN SANGRUR

SANGRUR Councillors of Bhawanigarh Nagar Council (NC) on Monday unanimously elected Sukhjit Kaur Ghabdia as president and Monica Mittal as vicepresident. Both belong the Congress, which won 13 of 15 seats in the council.

Both elected councillors assumed charge in the presence of Punjab school education and public works department minister Vijay Inder Singla at the MC office in Bhawanigarh.

NC chief Sukhjit Kaur, wife of senior Congress leader Balwinder Singh Ghabdia, contested from ward number 7 and Monika Mittal, wife of Congress leader Varinder Mittal, was elected from ward number 13.

“In Dhuri, Pushpa Rani was elected chief of the NC and Sadhu Ram was elected senior vice-president,” said Latif Ahmad, SDM Dhuri.

Singla said it was the result of development carried out by their government and also the hard work of their dedicated workers that Punjab was empowering women. HTC
