3 foreign returnees test Covid +ve in Jammu

JAMMU : Amid Omicron scare, samples of two Jammu residents with foreign travel history were sent for genome sequencing while the sample of the third patient, who had recently returned from France, will be sent for Omicron mapping on Saturday, said officials.

The chief medical officer of Jammu district, Dr JP Singh said, “While the two had returned from Ireland and Italy, the third patient, who reported on Friday, had come back from France. “They hail from Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and Nanak Nagar,” added Dr Singh.

He, however, said none of the three Covid 19 patients had any adverse symptoms.

“They have been kept in isolation at the DRDO Hospital here and being treated for the Covid 19 virus but they don’t have any adverse symptoms and are normal. Since they returned from foreign countries, their genome sampling for the Omicron variant is mandatory,” said the CMO.

The administra­tion has made the administra­tive quarantine of foreign travellers mandatory.

173 new cases in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir reported 173 fresh Covid-19 infections on Friday and a death was reported from Kashmir. Of the total cases, 129 cases were reported in Kashmir valley and while the Jammu division saw 44 infections.

Himachal logs 54 cases

DHARAMSHAL­A : Himachal Pradesh recorded 54 fresh Covid-19 infections on Friday, taking the state’s case tally to 2,27,859. No death was reported on Friday.

Nineteen cases were reported from Kangra, 10 in Una, nine in Shimla, eight in Hamirpur, four in Solan, three in Bilaspur and one in Mandi. HTC
