Punjab man marries insurance agent fraudulent­ly in Sirsa, booked for rape

SIRSA: A 25-year- old married woman got a rape case registered on Saturday against her husband, whom she had married in 2012 considerin­g him to be a bachelor.

Police have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape), 420 (fraud) and 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the victim.

The accused has been identified as Jasandeep Singh, 28, a resident of Sardulgarh of Mansa district of Punjab.

The victim stated in her complaint that she was an insurance agent (LIC) and had sold a policy to the accused in 2011.

Thereafter, the accused started showing interest in her and they married at an Arya Samaj Temple in Sirsa in 2012 without informing their parents. They started living at Kirti Nagar colony of the district.

She said that a few days ago she came to know that he was already married in Punjab and also had a six-year-old daughter.

When she confronted him, he allegedly thrashed her and threatened of dire consequenc­es if she approached the police.

Police said efforts were on to arrest the accused.

HISAR: The Hisar police have arrested a local TV journalist on charge of molesting and stalking a 22-year-old woman.

The police said the accused, who works with a Hindi channel, was arrested on Friday night. He was produced in a court on Saturday and was released on bail.

The victim, who had earlier alleged rape by one Vishal Phogat, in her complaint told the police that the accused journalist was stalking her and often used to invite her to his home, claiming that he would help her in getting justice. The victim alleged that when she refused to join him, the accused threatened to defame her.

The police have booked the accused under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 ( criminal intimidati­on), 354-D (stalking) and 294 (any obscene act in public place in annoyance to others) of the IPC.
