INLD for special House session to oppose wealth tax on farmers
CHANDIGARH: The Indian National Lok Dal ( INLD) on Saturday demanded an emergency special session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha to pass a resolution against the proposed wealth tax on farmers.
Stating that the proposed tax would “ruin” the farmers of the state, INLD state president Ashok Arora and Ellenabad MLA Abhey Chautala said the INLD would launch a stir and hold demonstrations to inform farmers about the tax if the assembly session was not held.
They said according to the bill, the agricultural land adjoining the municipal committees, councils and corporations and cantonment board would be declared urban land and 1% of collector’s rate as annual wealth tax would be imposed. They said there were 53 municipal committees, nine municipal corporations and 24 municipal councils, besides two cantonment boards in Haryana and accordingly, around 85% of agricultural land would come under this tax and farmers would have to bear a loss of Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh per acre per annum. They alleged that the Congress government was taking such steps to force farmers to sell their land to builders.
GOVT FAVOURED OWN CANDIDATES
Chautala held that the state government had appointed their favourite 12 candidates (of 6,000) as Class-4 employees in the Haryana assembly.
“Now, the government would appoint Sandeep Nandal for the post of marshal and Nitin Malik as deputy secretary in assembly,” he said.
