ROHTAK: An HPS officer has been booked for opening fire at Kheri Bura village of Bhiwani district on Saturday.

ROHTAK: The controversial Haryana Police Services (HPS) officer, who was booked in 2010 for dacoity, robbery and criminal conspiracy in Panipat, has again been booked by the Bhiwani police for his alleged role in opening fire at villagers on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Ashok Sheoran, was booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 285 ( negligent conduct) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the Kheri Bura village panchayat.

In a new development, the erring cop confessed to his mistake on Sunday and sought apologies with folded hands for his violent behaviour before the Kheri Bura panchayat, who in turn reportedly promised to withdraw the police complaint.

As per details, Sheoran had gone to meet his spiritual guru Mahant Suresh Anand, whom he revered, on the outskirts of Kheri Bura village in Bhiwani on Saturday.

During meeting, Mahant told him about the brusque behaviour of villagers with him on some local issues.

Upon learning about the entanglement, the cop allegedly challenged the villagers, who were present near the ashram.

During a heated argument, the cop allegedly opened fire at the villagers to chase them away when they started gathering in large numbers.

However, no one got injured and the matter was pacified by the intervention of other persons present on the spot. Following this, the panchayat members lodged a police complaint in this regard.

Notably, the cop was booked in March 2010 when he was serving as ASP of now-disbanded special task force. He was caught on camera for making an extortion bid to a Panipat-based jeweller. A Panipat court had acquitted Sheoran of charges in November.
