HISAR: A PhD student of the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technolog y ( GJUST) has alleged misbehaviour and stalking by a university employee.

Sources said the suspect, a Class-III employee, was making advances to the scholar while she was on her way to the city gate around 4.30pm on Saturday.

Sources said when the girl, a student of Master of Business Administration (MBA), was on her way to the gate number-3, the suspect came from behind in a car and started passing comments on her.

The girl alleged that the suspect was in an inebriated condition, but the university authorities did not confirm the allegations.

The suspect allegedly stalked her till the gate after which the girl approached the security staff who stopped him, but later let him off.

Interestingly, the case was reported at a time in the evening when a team of senior faculty members should have been patrolling the campus (proctoral duty) as per the new guidelines issued by the university to thwart cases of eve-teasing.

However, it is not clear whether those on proctoral duty were doing their job or not.

The girl approached the university authorities l" ate on Saturday night. Karam Pal, chief security officer, GJU, underplayed the incident and termed it a case of misbehaviour, not stalking or eve-teasing.

But, RS Jaglan, GJU registrar, told Hindustan Times that the case would be sent to the sexual harassment cell against women for investigation. No police case has been registered so far.

The university has not taken any action against the suspected employee so far.

Two incidents in the past have exposed loopholes in the university’s security system. Geetika Mehta, a student, was hacked to death with an axe on the campus on November 26, 2012, by another student Pradeep Nain as Geetika had rejected his proposal.

In the second incident, another student Varsha Yadav, was stabbed to death by an outsider on the campus on August 10, 2012.
