NEW DELHI: Women can expect better maintenanc­e amount from their estranged husbands even though they may be asked by courts to make a last effort to save their marriage. The government is incorporat­ing the changes after the opposition in Rajya Sabha opposed amendments to Marriage Laws Bill in last monsoon session. The Cabinet is expected to consider amendments on Wednesday in a bid to satisfy the opposition and see it through Parliament. LPG subsidy in bank accounts from October NEW DELHI: In a big push to the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme, the Centre is set to transfer subsidy for cooking gas to the bank accounts of 140 million consumers from October. Senior government functionar­ies told district collectors of 121 districts on Monday that there was a great level of “satisfacti­on” over the rollout of LPG subsidy through Aadhaar -based payment platform and the government would aim to cover the entire nation from October. Coal scam: BJP slams govt over suppressio­n of facts NEW DELHI: In the context of the CBI telling the Supreme Court that government had vetted its status report on the coal blocks allocation, the BJP on Monday accused the government of being a party in the suppressio­n of facts before the SC. “Additional Solictor general Rawal told the SC on March 12, 2013, that the CBI’s report hasn’t been shared with the government. This in spite of the fact that he was present in the meeting called by the Law Minister on March 8,” BJP’s leader Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad said. EC for amendments to tackle hate speeches NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has recommende­d amendment to the Representa­tion of People Act to enable it take action against political leaders making hate speeches. Appearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, commission counsel Meenakshi Arora said if EC’s suggestion­s are accepted, it would be in a position to act against registered political parties. Three killed in Goalpara violence GUWAHATI: Three persons, of whom two were killed in police firing, reportedly died in two different but related incidents on Monday in Goalpara district, 130 km west of Guwahati.
