No support, no water

FEROZEPUR: Believing and then implementing the common phrase ‘everything is fair in love and war’, a nominee for the sarpanch’s post at a village here has barred his opponents from drawing water from his tubewell.

Mukhtiar Singh and Kartar Singh are slugging it out for the post of sarpanch at Khanpur village on the Ferozepur-Faridkot road.

Recently, Mukhtiar allegedly got written a message on the wall of his tubewell shed, which read: “

(Those who are not supporting us in panchayat polls should not come to motor)”.

It may be mentioned here that a reverse osmosis system has been attached to the tubewell of Mukhtiar Singh and a number of villagers, especially poor, take water from there.

Mukhtiar, however, denied having written the message at the tubewell. “It’s the handiwork of my rivals, who want to malign my image,” he said, adding that he was fighting the panchayat polls to ensure that some development took place in the village.

Ferozepur deputy commissioner Manjit Singh Narang admitted having received a complaint regarding the issue.

“If it is true, it is clear violation of election code of conduct,” the deputy commissioner said.

“I have already marked an inquiry,” DC Manjit Singh Narang added.
