Car hits Aam Aadmi Party workers’ bike, party cries foul

GHAZIABAD/ NEW DELHI: Two workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were seriously injured after being involved in an alleged “accident” near Kaushambi Metro station on Sunday.

The AAP workers — identified as the party’s candidate from Seemapuri constituency Santosh Koli and Kuldeep — were on a motorcycle and were heading towards Delhi from their party office at Kaushambi when the incident took place. The police have registered an attempt to murder case in this regard and launched an investigation.

“Is it an accident? Or deliberate?” tweeted Arvind Kejriwal after the accident.

Police said the injured duo had alleged that the unknown car hit their motorcycle from behind near Kaushmabi Metro station at 4.30 pm and fled. Soon after the incident, locals gathered at the spot and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where Santosh — who was riding pillion — was admitted to the ICU. Kuldeep was stated to be out of danger.

Senior Superintendent of police, Nitin Tiwari said, “We have registered a case under Section 307 of IPC at Link road police station. Police is examining CCTV footage of nearby shops to get clues about the vehicle.” Tiwari added that Santosh has sustained injuries on her shoulder and head.

Twenty-four-year old Koli has long been associated with Parivartan - Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia’s organisation working for changes at the grassroots. It was her house in F block Sundar Nagari that had become the venue of Kejriwal’s fast during March. It is her house that Kejriwal has rented for contesting the Assembly polls. However, receiving life threats is not something new for Koli. In 2005, she was attacked with a blade by an unidentified man, allegedly a ration shop dealer, who had felt threatened by Parivartan’s work.
