NANGAL: Rift in the Nangal Congress came to the fore on Sunday as all office- bearers (over 70) of the block Congress committee tendered their resignation to protest against the “unceremonious” removal of block Congress president Parmajit Singh Pamma.

They have sent their resignations to Congress president Sonia Gandhi with copies to party vice- president Rahul Gandhi, party affairs in-charge for Punjab Shakeel Ahmad and state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh.

Pamma, a loyalist of former state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, was appointed the Nangal block Congress committee president about two years back in place of Sanjay Sahni, a loyalist of former MLA Rana KP Singh. The camp owing allegiance to Rana KP never accept- ed Pamma as their leader. A few days back, Sahni was again appointed the block Congress committee chief.

Talking to the media, block Congress committee office-bearers, including Ashutosh Parmar, Dibag Singh Chandel,Ram Lal, Lalji Mojowal, Parveen Kumar Dutta, Rajinder Singh, Avtar Singh and Munish Vasudeva said Pamma was removed from the post in violation of All India Congress Committee ( AICC) guidelines.

They said Rana KP pressured the state Congress chief to remove Pamma without serving notice on him. They said Pamma won the municipal council and district bar association elections despite opposition from Rana KP.

Amarinder is removing dedicated party workers who were appointed by Bajwa. This will hit the party’s prospects of winning the assembly elections, they said.
