We know that to be a winner in life, one has to be courageous enough to be undaunted by difficult moments. Of course, one has to be “sensibly courageous” in order not to lose one’s balance during the “moments of madness of bravery”. Courage is a quality of mind that forks one into doing great deeds. Those who have made history have been people of great courage and conviction.

That is why the late APJ Abdul Kalam, in The Righteous Life, said, “I have always believed that cowards never make history; history is created by people with courage and wisdom. Courage is individual, wisdom comes with experience.”

Courage helps one make life meaningful and worthy of living. And it is courage that gives you the ways and means to grow into a complete and sensible human being. That is because courage gives you the ability to think of others and do things in a manner that your action leaves life around you better. It makes you shower love and kindness on others; and, in return, you get peace of mind, happiness and lots of love.

Without courage life comes to a standstill. Courage makes you make full use of the opportunities that life comes with at every turn. And it is courage that gives you a chance to understand your own self in terms of your potential. This point is well-made by Maya Angelou, who has this to say: “Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.”
