ROHTAK: Rohtak additional superintendent of police (ASP) Himanshu Garg, an IPS officer, was transferred by Haryana director general of police (DGP) KP Singh to Panchkula on Wednesday in the wake of allegations that he thrashed two junior employees.

Class-4 police employees (water carriers) Rajender Singh and Veer Bhan had alleged that the ASP beat them up “brutally with wooden sticks” on July 5 when the two had gone for gardening at his residence in Rohtak.

The Haryana Police Association, which came up in support of the two employees, said the victims were threatened by the ASP of dire consequences if they complained to anyone. Fearing the officer’s ire, they even did not seek medical care.

Association president Dilawar Singh said he met Haryana ADGP (law and order) Muhammad Akil on July 10 to complain about the ASP. “The ADGP supported us and condemned the ASP’s action. He also directed authorities to inquire into the case,” Dilawar claimed.

After the association’s support, the two workers demanded an FIR against the ASP on Tuesday.

Rohtak SP Rakesh Arya said he had initiated an inquiry under a police team led by a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).

However, the two victims on Wednesday said they had reached a compromise with the ASP and no longer wanted to register a complaint. “The ASP realised his mistake and apologised to us, so we won’t like to pursue the matter any further,” Veer Bhan, one of the victims, said.

Meanwhile, ASP Garg denied allegations that he beat up the two workers. “I will not like to comment because I’m bound by the conduct. But all these allegations are baseless,” he said. “I have received transfer orders and I will comply with them,” he added.

The police association, on the other hand, said the victims were forced to compromise under police pressure. “What can we do? We stood up for them because they were brutally beaten. But they have given up under police pressure,” Dilawar Singh said.
