Want to train boxers for India after retirement: Mary Kom
ROHTAK :Olympic medallist Mary Kom on Saturday said she would like to train boxers for the country after her retirement. The bronze medallist was here at the newly inaugurated National Boxing Academy.
“I have set up my boxing academy in Manipur and want to train boxers,” Kom said.
The 33-year old boxer was honoured as brand ambassador of the academy here. Olympic medallist-turned-professional boxer Vijender Singh was also conferred with the same honour earlier.
“Haryana youths are very energetic and have lots of talent to be groomed as boxing champions and NBA would provide them conducive atmosphere, while training under the guidance of experts and experienced hands”, said Mary Kom.
Accompanied by international woman boxer Kavita Chahal, Mary said she has plans to continue in boxing till a new boxer defeats her.
About her academy in Manipur, she said that the academy, named as Mary Kom Regional Boxing Academy, was almost ready and it would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Naren- d ra Mo di, as per his schedule.
On switching of amateur box- ers into professional field, Mary, who is five-time world boxing champion, said it was an individual decision of a sportsperson.
