SYL issue: INLD to stop all vehicles from Punjab on July 10
CHANDIGARH :The principal opposition party in Haryana, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), has threatened to block all vehicles coming from Punjab on national highway 1 at Patiala-Ambala border, besides other points in the state, on July 10 to protest against what it termed the failure of the BJP governments in state and at Centre to get SutlejYamuna Link (SYL) canal constructed despite the Supreme Court’s verdict in Haryana’s favour.
INLD leader Abhay Chautala, who along with party state president Ashok Arora held the party’s working committee meeting here on Monday, reiterated his party’s demand to get Haryana’s share of river waters through the SYL.
He exhorted the party workers to stop all vehicles entering Haryana from Punjab near Ambala as well as Gulha Chika, Kaithal, and Dabwali, Sirsa, from the wee hours of July 10, if the government fails to take any concrete step on the issue by then.
The party had earlier threatened to stop only Punjab roadways buses as well as official vehicles on July 10. On a question in this context, Abhay said the party has now decided that it would not allow even a bicycle to enter Haryana from Punjab on that day.
Abhay further told newspersons that the committee also passed a resolution demanding a complete waiver of farmers’ debts, besides the implementation of Swaminathan commission recommendations in regard to the fixing of the MSP for all agricultural produce.
“The Centre has adequate funds to waive off farmers’ debts completely and it should frame a pan-India policy in this context.
