25 buffaloes drown, 28 missing in Tarn Taran
TARNTARAN: As many as 25 out of 64 drowned buffaloes of Gujjars were found dead at Mari Gaur Singh village in Patti sub-division, 40 km from the district headquarters, Saturday.
As many as 28 buffaloes are still missing. The buffaloes belong to Mozudin, Makhan and Sadik (Gujjars) who are living at Jandiala Guru (Amritsar district). “Our buffaloes were grazing near the drain and were washed due to heavy current of the water,” said one of the owners.
The Gujjars and the locals also expressed their anger against the administration for not providing any help.
5 COWS WASHED AWAY IN SULTANPUR LODHI
As many as 5 cows drowned after a cattle pound was flooded with drain water due to heavy rains in recent days.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Mohammad Tayyab conducted inspection of the cattle pound at Kamalpur village in the Sultanpur Lodhi on Saturday.
DC was accompanied by subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Charumita Shekhar, deputy director animal husbandry Kapurthala.
The DC found several shortcomings and directed the officials to improve upon them at the earliest.
DC has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter and directed SDM Charumita to submit a report regarding the matter. DC also asked the officials to complete the pending construction work of pound.
The cattle pound is still under construction and has the capacity to keep over 2,000 stray animals. The pound was constructed at ₹70 lakh.
