DA case: EX-SSP sent to judicial custody
VIGILANCE’S PATIALA WING HELD AN INQUIRY AGAINST GREWAL AFTER AN NRI SARABJIT SINGH COMPLAINED
PATIALA: A local court has sent former senior superintendent of police (SSP) SS Grewal in judicial remand in a disproportionate assets case, on Monday.
Grewal had surrendered on April 18 after the Supreme Court rejected his bail plea. He remained in vigilance bureau custody for 13 days and investigators found more benami property.
These include bank account copies with details of another ₹15 lakh; prime commercial land measuring three kanals (1,815 square yards) registered in Grewal’s name in Khanna and four-five kanals in the name of one of his relatives, a banquet hall at Khanna in Ludhiana district and 25 bighas of agriculture land in Bhasaur village near Dhuri in Sangrur district.
“From the registration of the case to date, the vigilance has found properties worth ₹16 crore in the name of Grewal and his relatives,” the vigilance claimed. The bureau also named two of his close associates as co-accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The vigilance’s Patiala wing had conducted a detailed inquiry against Grewal after a Us-based NRI Sarabjit Singh complained to the bureau chief director in 2015. A FIR was registered on December 21, 2017, in which Grewal was accused of indulging in corruption and misusing office during his service.
