Newly married woman commits suicide in Y’nagar, hubby held
VICTIM’S FAMILY ALLEGES THAT HER HUSBAND AND HIS PARENTS HAD BEEN HARASSING HER AND DEMANDING ₹10 LAKH AND A HONDA CITY CAR
KARNAL: A 24-year-old man was arrested on the charge of dowry death after the body of her wife was found hanging from the ceiling at their residence in Tejali village, Yamunanagar police said on Saturday.
The victim, Suman, 21, had married accused Ravi Kumar on March 5, 2018 and was allegedly not happy.
As per the complaint filed by Suman’s family members, her in-laws, who also have been booked on similar charges, used to harass her for dowry.
They claimed Ravi used to beat Suman under the influence of liquor, which was among the reasons that drove her to commit suicide on Friday evening.
They also alleged that Ravi had been pressurising Suman to get ₹10 lakh from her parents along with a Honda City car. “Following that, she come to her parents’ house in Gadholi village, but on April 30, Ravi came with his mother and took her back,” her family stated. The family has also accused Suman’s father-in-law Baldev Singh and mother-in-law Sandeep Kaur of harassing her.
Investigation officer Prithvi Singh said they police have registered a first information report (FIR) under Sections 304 B (dowry death) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Ravi and his family and further investigation was on.
He said the main accused was already under arrest and Suman’s body was handed over to her family after the postmortem.
