VICTIM IN UNIFORM

Baljit Kaur (above) from Qadian, an assistant sub-inspector with Punjab Police, had no inkling of what lay in store for her when she married Harmandeep Singh Sekhon of Los Angeles in March 2014. Baljit alleges that two days after her marriage, she was subjected to dowry demands and harassment when her brother-in-law got married to an only daughter with farm land.

DREAM TURNS NIGHTMARE

Yasmeen Kaur (above) from Chandigarh had graduated as a dentist in 2014 when her parents found her a match in Kanwalpreet Singh Guru, an Australian national living in Melbourne. It was the beginning of her nightmare. A last-minute bypass surgery of her father prompted a quick engagement and court marriage in February 2014. It was followed by a lavish wedding in November 2014 after which she went to her in-laws house in Mohali. Yasmeen alleges torture by her father-in-law, a retired banker, and her husband’s brother and sister.
