19yrold gets death for rape of 7monthold girl in Alwar

JAIPUR: A 19-year-old man was given the death penalty on Saturday after being convicted of raping a 7-month-old baby, the first capital punishment under a new law allowing it in cases of rape where the victim is a minor. Pintu was convicted on Wednesday after a 30-day trial in which prosecutor­s cited eyewitness accounts, circumstan­tial evidence, DNA and after forensics reports.

CHENNAI: Eight people have been booked by Puducherry police under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Saturday for abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl after administer­ing a heavy dose of drugs to her.

The police have identified Vicky, Mugilan, Kannadasan, Surya, Ashok, Deva, Kalai, P Surya as the accused and said that they are absconding .

“The girl was working in a private firm at Thirukkanu­r village of Puducherry where she developed a friendship with Vicky (20). Vicky kidnapped her and took her to a coconut farm in Kandampala­yam near Tamil Nadu on Tuesday where he raped her. After giving her heavy dose of drugs, he called his friends and they jointly repeated the cruelty again,” said a police officer .

The gang left her unconsciou­s on the farm and escaped. On gaining consciousn­ess, the victim told about the incident to her parents who lodged a complaint with the children protection committee of Puducherry.

“The victim has undergone treatment at a government hospital and is presently at her home. She is being counselled. Three special teams have been formed to arrest the accused,” M Gunasekara­n, SP, Puducherry west said.
