FARIDKOT:MORE than two months after the body of a 22-year-old Jaitu resident, Jagsir Singh, was found on a railway track in the village in May 2018, the district police have arrested his cousin, Angrej Singh, 32, and an accomplice, Avtar Singh, 36, for murder.

The sharp-edged weapon used in the murder has been recovered.

Initially, the railway police had closed the case by following inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) on a statement from the deceased’s father, Mohinder Singh.

Later, Mohinder expressed his suspicion that his son was murdered and then thrown on the tracks.

Faridkot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said the main accused Angrej suspected that Jagsir had a affair with his wife, Sarbjit Kaur, and thus wanted to avenge his “insult”.

“The accused murdered Jagsir with a sharp-edged weapon during the intervening night of May 13 and 14 and later threw the body on the railway track to mislead the police,” added Sandhu, claiming that the railway police failed to conduct a proper probe into the matter and were negligent in duty.

“I will write to the railway police to act against cops who were negligent,” the SSP added.

A case has now been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Jaitu police station, Faridkot.
