Govt intensifies action, more raids carried out
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Thursday intensified action against food adulteration, carrying out raids at various establishments in Kapurthala, Bathinda, Nabha, Moga and Sangrur.
Tandarust Punjab Mission commissioner KS Pannu said that a joint checking drive by the deputy director, dairy board, and the food safety team conducted inspection of a dairy at Phagwara, seizing three quintals of desi ghee and one quintal of paneer, seemingly of poor quality. “The stock has been seized, samples taken for analysis and the owner has been directed to improve hygienic conditions,” he said in a statement.
Similarly, a food safety team along with representatives of Progressive Dairy Farmers’ Association raided another dairy at Nabha where 18 quintals of milk, 125 kg of paneer and 35 kg cream were stocked. Samples of milk, cream and paneer was taken.
Another milk collection centre on Thoohi Road near Bus Stand, Nabha, was also inspected.
In Fatehgarh Sahib, a joint raid of SDM Khamano, dairy department and food safety department was conducted at Ucha Jatana village at a paneer manufacturing unit and 550 kg of paneer and 80 kg of substandard cream were destroyed. Samples of paneer, cream and milk were taken.
A team of health department and district administration raided Dirba town of Sangrur and collected samples of ‘spurious’ paneer on Wednesday night. The team also dumped 6,000 litres of milk .
In a statement issued here on Thursday, deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said: “We have seized 900 of kg ‘spurious’ paneer, 1,000 kg of curd, 600 litres of lassi and 2,350 kg Ggee,” said assistant commissioner, food, Ravinder Garg.
