Take a break from studies to try out different kinds of activities

After completing my schooiing from Dps in Delhi, i enrolled in a BBA programme at Jamia hamdard. even though i was keen to study geography, i could not secure admission at a good college due to my percentage. i dropped BBA after one year to pursue hotel management which i pursued for one semester and left that too. i was then enrolled at another private university to study journalism , but after attending classes for two weeks, i did not like the course. My family is very worried and i am unsure too. i have lost more than two years. please suggest a way out.

It is important to choose a career you will enjoy and excel in and then take up the course of study required for this career.

To enable you discover what that may be, you must start looking within yourself, and figure out what you are good at, the kind of person you are and the work that will interest you.

Each of us is unique with some talents and interests and it is important to know before taking a career decision.

You can start by taking into account what subjects you do like to study. It may be a subject you did in school, or one you have found interestin­g but not had an opportunit­y to explore. You also need to consider the kind of person you are and the work that will interest you.

Are you creative, good with communicat­ions, get on well with other people? Are you a problem solver and a good organizer?

You must explore a number of fields of activity that interest and excite you and try to understand the kind of work you will be doing in each and assess your own suitabilit­y for such work.

Today there are career assessment tools that can help you discover important things about yourself – your skills, your interest, your values.

Your areas of interests can be matched to different career areas, which is one way to explore career options.

There are hundreds of different careers suitable for people of varied abilities, interests and personalit­ies and you need to start thinking about what you can do well before jumping into a particular degree course.

As you have tried out study courses that do not interest you, it is best that you take a break from studies.

Once you have identified the kind of work and field of activity that you would like to get into you then can go ahead with the most appropriat­e study programme.
