JEM MILITANT GUNNED DOWN IN PULWAMA

SRINAGAR: A Jaish-e-mohammad militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday. The gunfight started in the morning after a joint party of security forces cordoned an area in Tral in Pulwama. A policeman said the exchange of fire between the warring groups continued till evening.

SRINAGAR : A Pakistani Jaish-emohammad (JEM) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

The gunfight started in the morning after a joint party of security forces cordoned Darganiegu­nd area in Tral in Pulwama following tips about presence of militants.

“As the search operation was going on, the hiding terrorists fired on search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” a police spokespers­on said.

A police official said that the exchange of fire between the warring groups continued till evening.

“In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. Incriminat­ing materials including arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site,” the spokespers­on said.

The official said it is learnt that the slain man is a Pakistani code-named as Anwar, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit JEM.

The spokespers­on said he was involved in attacks on security establishm­ents and other civilian atrocities in the area.

A policeman also sustained minor injuries and is stated to be stable, he said.

The police said citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

The authoritie­s had suspended high speed mobile internet in the district.

AN OFFICIAL SAID THE SLAIN MILITANT IS A PAKISTANI, CODENAMED AS ANWAR, AFFILIATED WITH PROSCRIBED TERROR OUTFIT JEM.
