Ludhiana woman abducts NRI husband for money

LUDHIANA: A woman, along with her accomplice­s, kidnapped her NRI husband from Indira Gandhi Internatio­nal Airport, New Delhi, on November 3, soon after he landed in India, and took him to Dakoha village in Jalandhar. The NRI, Pritpal Singh Palah, 64, was allegedly beaten up in confinemen­t and taken to State Bank of India’s NRI branch near Fountain Chowk on Thursday where he was asked to withdraw ₹15 lakh from his account.

LUDHIANA: A woman, along with her accomplice­s, kidnapped her NRI husband from Indira Gandhi Internatio­nal Airport, New Delhi, on November 3, soon after he landed in India, and took him to Dakoha village in Jalandhar.

The NRI, Pritpal Singh Palah, 64, was allegedly beaten up in confinemen­t and taken to State Bank of India’s NRI branch near Fountain Chowk on Thursday where he was asked to withdraw ₹15 lakh from his account.

However, the NRI wrote a ‘distress note’ on the withdrawal slip and handed it over to bank employee. In the meantime, the accused got a clue about the plan going awry and fled from the bank.

The Division 8 police have registered a case on the complaint of Pritpal Singh of Shimlapuri against his wife Rajni Sharma, her mother and their accomplice­s Babbu alias Bablu, Pawan Kumar of Khusropur of Jalandhar and Gurpreet Singh of Dakoha village of Jalandhar.

The NRI said he is a citizen of the UK. After divorcing his first wife, he solemnised second marriage with Rajni, who was a widow, on March 4.

He said a month after his marriage, he returned to the UK. On November 3, he came to India and his wife Rajni had come to the airport to receive him. However, Rajni, along with her accomplice­s, allegedly kidnapped him from the airport, took him to Dakoha village in Jalandhar and beat him up after confining him in a room.

Pritpal said on Thursday, the accused took him to a bank and asked him to withdraw ₹15 lakh. “I managed to write ‘call the police, I am kidnapped’ on the withdrawal slip and handed it over to the woman employee at the counter. The woman took the slip to the manager,” he said.

Meanwhile, the accused sensed something amiss in the plan and fled from the spot. A team of Division 8 police reached at the spot and started investigat­ions.

Sub-inspector Manjit Singh, who is investigat­ing the case, said an FIR under sections 365 (kidnapping and wrongful confinemen­t), 420 (cheating ), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 511 (attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonme­nt up to life ), 506 (criminal intimidati­on) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

The police have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the accused.
