Former employee of Tata Steel subsidiary shoots manager dead

FARIDABAD: A former employee of Tata Steel Processing and Distributi­on Limited (TSPDL), who, according to police, was sacked from the company this August, shot dead a senior manager of the company Friday afternoon.

The accused has been identified as Vishwas Pandey (32), who hails from Allahabad, police said and are searching for him.

Police said the incident took place around 1.30pm on Friday when Pandey entered the Tata steel yard on Hardware–bata road and pumped around four-five bullets into Arindam Pal (40) — a senior manager.

Police said other employees rushed the victim to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. “We received a message from the hospital. By the time we reached, Pal was dead,” Ashok Kumar, SHO, Mujesar police station, said.

Kumar said, “We have registered FIR and launched a hunt for the absconding accused ,” Kumar said. The victim’s body is in Badshah Khan Hospital mortuary and a postmortem will be conducted on Sunday, police said.

Meanwhile, TSPDL, in its official statement, said, “At around 1:10pm on November 9, an unfortunat­e incident took place at the Faridabad office of TSPDL, a Tata Steel subsidiary located inside the Tata Steel stockyard in Faridabad, wherein Arindam Pal, Sr Manager (Supply Chain), was shot dead with a firearm by Vishwash Pandey, an ex-employee of the company. Pal expired on way to the hospital. He is survived by his wife, parents and a daughter. Pandey worked with TSPDL from 2015 to 2018. He was discharged from services in August.
