JALANDHAR:THREE months after a class 8 student attempted suicide after allegedly being tricked into drinking urine by his classmates, the police on Friday cancelled a first information report (FIR) against a teacher.

The teacher, Shinki Sharma, was booked on August 7 for allegedly assaulting and using casteist slurs against the 12-year-old boy. The police ruled out that the boy, belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, was made to drink urine by his classmates on August 3.

A case was registered against the teacher under Section 323 (voluntary causing hurt) and Section 3 (1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) at the Navi Baradari police station.

The FIR was cancelled after a special investigation team (SIT) headed by deputy commissioner of police (investigation) Gurmeet Singh found the allegations baseless.

The boy was hospitalised with multiple fractures after he jumped from the roof of his house following the incident.
