Drunk cop rams car into MLA’S gypsy, booked

SBS NA­GAR : A Pun­jab Po­lice head con­sta­ble, driv­ing a Maruti Alto in ine­bri­ated con­di­tion, got into a head-on col­li­sion with two ve­hi­cles in Nawan­shahr on Thurs­day.

The po­lice­man on driv­ing seat has been iden­ti­fied as head con­sta­ble Labh Singh of Bathinda. While, Kr­is­han Ku­mar of Mo­hali was ac­com­pa­ny­ing him. Both are posted at 82 Bat­tal­ion Pun­jab Armed Po­lice (PAP) in Chandi­garh.

One of the ve­hi­cles in­volved in the ac­ci­dent was Jan­di­ala Guru MLA Sukhwinder Singh Danny’s pi­lot gypsy.

The im­pact of the col­li­sion was such that the gypsy over­turned, while, an­other car Maruti Er­tiga was man­gled badly. No­body sus­tained any griev­ous in­jury and were dis­charged after first aid.

The po­lice have also re­cov­ered nine bot­tles of King’s Gold brand liquor, bought from Chandi­garh. As per the rules, one can carry only two liquor bot­tles out­side the city bor­ders. The vic­tim driv­ing the Er­tiga, Ashok Ku­mar, lodged a first in­for­ma­tion re­port (FIR) and said an over speed­ing Alto car, be­ing driven by cops, hit his car be­fore hit­ting a gypsy.

A case un­der Sec­tions 279 and 427 of the IPC and Sec­tions 61-1-14 of the Pun­jab Ex­cise Act was reg­is­tered at Sadar Banga Po­lice Sta­tion on Thurs­day night. Sadar Banga SHO Ra­jiv Ku­mar said the cops were ar­rested and later re­leased on a bail as the charges were bail­able.
