Jai Ram con­ducts ae­rial sur­vey of Balh air­port site

SHIMLA/MANDI : Chief Min­is­ter Jai Ram Thakur on Fri­day con­ducted an ae­rial sur­vey of the site rounded up for the con­struc­tion of a pro­posed in­ter­na­tional air­port at Balh in Mandi dis­trict along with the team of Air­port Au­thor­ity of In­dia and se­nior of­fi­cers of the state govern­ment.

The team an­a­lysed fea­si­bil­ity of land­ing of air­craft and likely ob­sta­cles in the way be­fore pre­par­ing a de­tailed re­port. The de­tailed project re­port would be sub­mit­ted to the Union min­istry of civil avi­a­tion. This project will not only give a boost to tourism ac­tiv­i­ties in the area but will also be of im­por­tance from a de­fence point of view.


The CM in­au­gu­rated a lift from the Cart Road to The Mall in Shimla on Fri­day, to fa­cil­i­tate gen­eral pub­lic and tourists. The lift was con­structed at a cost of ₹6.20 crore.

Jai Ram said the lift will be car­ry­ing 26 per­sons and is equipped with all mod­ern fa­cil­i­ties, emer­gency alarm sys­tem, mu­sic, tele­phone con­nec­tiv­ity and clock etc.

The lift, which was con­structed by the de­part­ment of tourism un­der Shimla beau­ti­fi­ca­tion plan with funds from Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank, is ad­ja­cent to the old one.

The CM also laid foun­da­tion stone of mo­torable dou­ble lane cable-stayed bridge over Beas river on Hanogi Kholanala road in Mandi dis­trict.

The 100me­tre long bridge will be con­structed on an amount of ₹15.85 crore.

He said the bridge will be an added at­trac­tion for lo­cals and tourists and would be the first dou­ble lane cable-stayed bridge in the state and would be com­pleted within two years.
