AMRITSAR : Newly launched Punjabi Ekta Party chief and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Friday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’S move to cosy up to the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) for alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections came only after the Congress rejected its offer.

Khaira, who resigned from the AAP’S membership and floated the new political outfit in Chandigarh on Wednesday, paid obeisance at the Golden Temple, the Durgiana Temple and the Ram Tirath Temple in Amritsar to seek blessings for the success of his political battle for Punjab.

Before meeting SAD (Taksali) president and Khadoor Sahib MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura at the latter’s residence in the city, Khaira said no party wanted to go with AAP which has lost ground in Punjab.

“The AAP workers have decided to go with Punjabi Ekta Party as people of the state don’t want any outsider to dictate them. We want the SAD (Taksali) to join the People Democratic Alliance (PDA). The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is also with us and we are forming a combine with it on national level as well,” he said. The meeting between Khaira and taksalis lasted for nearly two hours.

After the meeting, Brahmpura said he discussed with Khaira Punjab’s political scenario at length and the meeting remained positive. He said Khaira is a sincere politician and he also wants to defeat monopoly of the Congress and SAD on state politics.

“We want all likeminded parties to join hands. This is the only way out to defeat the Congress and SAD. If the parties contest the elections separately, it will suit them,” he said. About joining PDA, he said the party will decide on this.

ZORA PANEL ISSUE: KHAIRA DANCING TO CAPT’S TUNES, SAYS AAP

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab unit of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) on Friday criticised Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira for his statement against Justice Zora Singh (retired) Commission, which was constituted by the then SAD-BJP government to probe the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari and police firing at Behbal Kalan, in which two persons were killed.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Kotkapura MLA and party spokesperson Kultar Singh Sandhwan accused Khaira of dancing to the tunes of chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to protect the Badal fatherson duo.

Sandhwan said Captain Amarinder Singh should make the report public. He said Badals should prove that the findings of Justice Zora Singh that they misused government machinery to derail the probe were wrong. He said that during the investigation by the commission, the police did not cooperate and produced wrong information.
