HAMIRPUR : Former chief minister and senior Congress leader, Virbhadra Singh on Saturday criticised the former state party president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for harming the cause of the organisation during his tenure as the party chief.

While addressing a party rally organised by the Sujanpur MLA Rajinder Rana at Gajoh village on Saturday, the former CM blamed Sukhu for the party’s debacle during the last Vidhan Sabha election.

“Sukhu ignored the grass root-level and the real workers of the party. He demanded that all district and block Congress committees should be revamped with appointment of new members therein,” Singh said.

During his speech, the leader conveyed his disapproval over the working of the former party chief and said that he failed to deliver and fulfil promises even in his home district Hamirpur.

Welcoming the appointment of Kuldeep Rathore as the new state party chief, the former CM said the step should have been taken much earlier.

“I am hopeful that the new chief would give a new directions to the party by taking everyone into confidence,” he

said.

Meanwhile, leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri lashed out at the chief minister Jai Ram Thakur and local MP Anurag Thakur for “befooling” people with regard to national highway projects.

“Thakur claims that 54 national highways have already been sanctioned by the Centre, then why is the CM demanding clearance for 44 highways which according to them have already been approved?,” the leader said.
