MAN STABBED TO DEATH OVER BONFIRE TIFF

AMRITSAR: A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death while his friend was injured after the duo entered into a scuffle with some men during Lohri celebratio­ns in the Sultanwind area of Amritsar on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Kawaljit Singh of Tej Nagar in Sultanwind. His friend Sikander Singh, who was attacked with a brick, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The incident took place at around 9pm when Kawaljit and Sikander were on the way back home from a market. Station house officer of the B-division police station said area residents had built a bonfire in the middle of a street in Sultanwind. “Kawajit and Sikander were on a bike. When they asked residents to let them pass, a scuffle ensued and in the melee, Kawaljit was stabbed by someone,” he said.

They were rushed to Guru Ram Das Hospital in Sultanwind where the doctors declared Kawaljit dead.

A case will be registered after recording Sikander’s statement, the SHO said.
