MAN STABBED TO DEATH OVER BONFIRE TIFF
AMRITSAR: A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death while his friend was injured after the duo entered into a scuffle with some men during Lohri celebrations in the Sultanwind area of Amritsar on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Kawaljit Singh of Tej Nagar in Sultanwind. His friend Sikander Singh, who was attacked with a brick, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident took place at around 9pm when Kawaljit and Sikander were on the way back home from a market. Station house officer of the B-division police station said area residents had built a bonfire in the middle of a street in Sultanwind. “Kawajit and Sikander were on a bike. When they asked residents to let them pass, a scuffle ensued and in the melee, Kawaljit was stabbed by someone,” he said.
They were rushed to Guru Ram Das Hospital in Sultanwind where the doctors declared Kawaljit dead.
A case will be registered after recording Sikander’s statement, the SHO said.
