I OPTED OUT FOR PANTH’S CAUSE, SAYS JJ SINGH

-

CHANDIGARH : Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) candidate and former army chief Gen JJ Singh said he took the call to opt out of the contest in Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency for the cause of the Sikh community.

JJ, who withdrew in favour of Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) nominee Paramjit Kaur Khalra, said he had a meeting with SAD (Taksali) president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and conveyed that the two parties should not fight each other to the advantage of their adversaries.

“I said that if she (Khalra) does not want to withdraw, I am willing to sacrifice and opt out to defeat the Congress and the SAD,” he told HT.

Asked if he would campaign for the PDA nominee, the retired army chief, who has already hit the campaign trail in the constituency, said he would meet Khalra and ask her if she needed his help.
