Former councillor killed in Yamunanaga­r road accident

AMBALA : A former municipal councilor, riding a motorcycle, was crushed to death by a truck on the outskirts of Yamunanaga­r on Saturday night, police said.

Gulshan Arora, 45, a resident of model colony in Yamunanaga­r, was returning home after dropping one his relatives at Dushani village, when the incident took place, Yamunanaga­r Sadar police station SHO Sukhbir said.

“A fast-moving truck hit the motorcycle from behind on the outskirts of the city and then ran over Arora when he fell down. He died on the spot. The truck driver fled the spot after the mishap,” the SHO added..

A four-time councillor of Yamunanaga­r Municipal Corporatio­n, Arora had organised a party at his home on Saturday to celebrate his marriage anniversar­y. His wife Kavita is also active in politics.

The police have registered a case against the unknown truck driver under sections 279(rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 of the Indian Penal Code, the SHO said.
