₹7-lakh bribe: Court sends ex-ajnala SHO to judicial custody

AMRITSAR: The court of Ajnala sub-division magistrate, on Sunday, sent dismissed Ajnala station house officer (SHO), Manjinder Singh, to judicial remand for accepting ₹7 lakh as bribe in a drug case.

The police have recovered ₹5 lakh of the bribe at the instance of the accused, while efforts are on to recover the remaining ₹2 lakh, said the police, who produced him in court on Sunday.

Manjinder was accused of demanding ₹10 lakh from the family of Deepak Kumar, a man he had arrested under the NDPS Act. The show as arrested after Sp-headquarte­rs Harpal Singh conducted an inquiry on the complaint of the Dheeraj

Kumar, Deepak’s brother. Dheeraj had said he handed over ₹6 lakh to the SHO on April 8 in the presence of Deepak’s fatherin-law Rajinder Kumar at the latter’s home at Chogawan road.
