HALF-HEARTED JALLIANWALA CENTENARY OBSERVANCE
The lacklustre and half-hearted observance of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre centenary in Amritsar was shameful and an insult to the martyrs of the independence movement. Two national parties observed the centenary separately at different times on the same day smacks of hypocrisy. The parties’ inability to come together to observe this event reveals the divide that our elections have brought forth. The lack of enthusiastic public response indicates alienation of society from the sacrifices of heroes involved in the independence movement.
