RSS leader killing: Curfew relaxed in parts of Kishtwar

JAMMU: The state authoritie­s on Sunday relaxed curfew in parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar, but restrictio­ns remained in force in other parts of the town for the sixth consecutiv­e day.

The curfew was imposed in the district following the killing of senior RSS functionar­y Chanderkan­t Sharma and his security guard on Tuesday.

The curfew was relaxed for one hour in areas between Shakti Nagar and Kishtwar police station from 2pm, for two hours upto 4pm in Hatta Upper, Sangrambat­ta, Girinagar , Semna Colony and Indira Nagar and for an hour in Hidyal, Gudhali, Baddi Zirayt, Jama Masjid, Kichloo Mohalla from 4:30pm.

“The relaxation period passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported. The curfew will remain in force through the night and after accessing the situation in the morning, a call will be taken for further relaxation,” said Kishtwar deputy commission­er Angrez Singh Rana.

Minor protests were also reported from interior localities on Saturday.

Police have seized the car used in the attack and have also identified one of the accused.

The vehicle was recovered from the outskirts of the town on Saturday evening

“It appears that the accused had abandoned the vehicle after the attack and fled towards a hideout,” police said. The car belonged to Zahid Hussain, who has been absconding since the attack, they said.
